For reasons of sustainability, we support local organizational development.
Compañero en Salud
Since 2004, the Guatemalan non profit Compañero en Salud - ONG (CenS) has been our local partner organization. CenS is an independent organization with its own mission, similar to Partner for Surgery. Currently its primary project is the construction of a shelter, Albergue San Gabriel, in San Juan Sacatepéquez, on the land next door to Centro de Salud Bárbara (CSB). CSB is a clinic built and subsidized by the private Guatemalan foundation Fundación Chusita Llerandi de Herrera. The shelter is for patients and their family members who live too far away to return home directly.
Asociación Compañro para Cirugía
In April 2008, an independent non profit organization was founded in La Antigua Guatemala: Asociación Compañero para Cirugía (ACPC). ACPC has its own (Guatemalan) Board of Directors, its own (Guatemalan) staff and shares its mission with Partner for Surgery: to enable impoverished Guatemalans to receive the surgical services offered by visiting surgical teams.
Where Partner for Surgery focuses on the recruitment of triage and surgical teams and the organization of triage and surgical missions, ACPC focuses on the “patient side”. As such, ACPC can be seen as providing the link between, on the one hand, the medical and surgical teams recruited by Partner for Surgery and, on the other hand, the people of Guatemala who are in need of the services provided by these medical and surgical teams.
